The ECOgardener seaweed extract conditioner is an organic soil conditioner derived from seaweed Ascophyllum Nodosum, which is a rich source of nutrients that support plant growth, like nitrogen, potassium, phosphate, and magnesium. This all-natural, organic powder seaweed fertilizer is used in soil amendment applications to improve soil and plant health.

Seaweed contains important hormones that support plant growth. These hormones are auxins, cytokinins, and betaines:

Auxins: Speed up root growth in plants. When applied to crops, the plants can flower at the right time. Brown seaweed extract helps plants produce their own auxins.

Cytokinins: Plant hormones that activate different growth processes in plants. These hormones improve plant vigor and the absorption of nutrients via the plant leaves.

Betaines: Plays a central role in the osmotic processes in plants grown in dry conditions. Boosts water uptake and heals stressed plants.

The ECOgardener seaweed extract conditioner comes in a concentrated water-soluble powder form. It can be used as a liquid or powder fertilizer. It is formulated for all soil types and is ideal for flowering plants, vegetables, herbs, shrubs, and trees.

Diluted in water to create a potent liquid fertilizer, the ECOgardener seaweed extract conditioner can be used as foliar spray or root dip in hydroponic gardens. Used in powder form, the ECOgardener seaweed extract conditioner can be applied directly into the soil for a quick boost of nutrients.

Fine powder, terribly messy, low nutrients

They advertise this as flakes of seaweed, but what I got was a fine black powder. I nipped the bag a bit and a spoonful or so fell out that was very hard to clean up. Be very careful handling this because the slightest spill will be hard to clean up. When it gets wet it makes a sticky brown gue. I am only glad it got on a table top and not on my carpet. So everybody talks about seaweed fertilizer and I am sure some of it is great but this stuff only has an analysis of 1-1-8, or mostly potassium. Sure it's organic but I think not worth the price or the mess for the amount of nutrients.

Finely powdered fertilizer or soil additive for vegetables, dissolves readily

This fine powder can be dissolved in water to add to an existing garden, though I mixed it with soil for potting mix to transplant my tomato seedlings into larger nursery pots. This is powdery and so you should pour or scoop it from the bag with caution so that you are getting it into wherever you need it and not dispersing it about. The bag doesn't reseal, so have a plastic bag ready if you won't be using it all at once -- since it is water soluble, you need to keep it dry. It works into soil very easily and contributes nitrogen (1 part), phosphorus (1 part), and potassium (8 parts). The NPK values are lower than other fertilizers, but this is less likely to leach out of the soil and be lost when you water, so the plants should get plenty of benefit. It's also very easy to apply compared to other bulky fertilizers that don't dissolve well.

Great natural source of potassium for the garden. I love adding this amendment with vermicompost, blood and bone meal, and a microbe/mycorrhizae inoculant whenever I restore used soil from the garden or planters. This particular bag of seaweed amendment looks just as good as some other brands and at a fair price. Not a steal but its fair.

Powder, Not Flakes

Advertises to be flakes but is more of a fine powder so had to dock a star for that. Otherwise it is a good soil additive. This is not a fertilizer, it is an additive! Good for amending. Useful and functional. It is about average price for seaweed extract per pound. Not bad and in a very usable form.

My plants seem to really like it, but I'm just guessing how much to use

I've been looking for a decent seaweed fertilizer for my vegetable garden. I really like this powdered seaweed. It's very fine, rich, and dark without smelling bad. I've started watering my plants with it occasionally and they have perked up and look a lot greener now. Time will tell if this increases my yield. The issue I have with this product is there is no way to correctly dose the water. The back of the package tells you how many "scoops" to use, but does not include a scoop or tell you what a scoop is. The first time I used it, I decided to use a tablespoon for a gallon. That was way too much. In the picture I included in this review, this is the 3rd time I used the water until only 1/3 of the solution was left and then refilled it with water. And it's still that dark.Maybe I'm missing something, but I do like the fertilizer regardless and will continue to tamper with the dosage on my own until I figure it out. Be careful not to burn your plants if you do that same thing! Start small.
